Premature Ventricular Complexes and Left Atrial Appendage Dysfunction - Another Head on a Many-Headed Hydra ?
نویسنده
چکیده
Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) in the absence of structural heart disease are often, but not always benign. They may require treatment for symptoms produced by the PVCs themselves or for intermittent sustained ventricular tachycardia. Even in the absence of symptoms, frequent premature ventricular complexes may lead to the development of left ventricular systolic dysfunction as a form of tachycardia induced cardiomyopathy [1]. Therefore treatment of PVCs is indicated in the presence of LV dilatation and dysfunction or with sufficient frequency of PVCs where development of ventricular dysfunction in the future is considered highly likely. This, however, may not be the only consequence of frequent PVCs.

Left Atrial Appendage Dysfunction in a Patient with Premature Ventricular Contractions - A Risk Factor for Stroke?
A 16-year-old female with ventricular dysfunction and frequent ventricular arrhythmia presented with a cardioembolic stroke. Prior electrophysiology study and ablation was performed for ventricular tachycardia (VT). For remaining ventricular ectopy, the patient was maintained on carvedilol and mexiletine. After one year on this regimen, she presented with an acute stroke. Transesophageal echoca...
متن کامل[Texture of mitral bioprosthesis, ventricular function and formation of thrombus. Analysis through transesophageal echocardiography and use of bioscore].
OBJECTIVE Facing the hypothesis of participation of mechanical stress as a cause of mitral bioprosthesis dysfunction, we decided to assess the relation of preservation of the texture of the mitral bioprosthesis leaflets with left ventricular function, in addition to the casual formation of thrombus in left atrium in patients with left ventricular dysfunction from the implant of mitral bioprosth...
متن کاملAbnormal Left Ventricular Mechanics of Ventricular Ectopic Beats: Insights Into Origin and Coupling Interval in Premature Ventricular Contraction-Induced Cardiomyopathy.
BACKGROUND Left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony caused by premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) has been proposed as a mechanism of PVC-induced cardiomyopathy. We sought to understand the impact of different PVC locations and coupling intervals (prematurity) on LV regional mechanics and global function of the PVC beat itself. METHODS AND RESULTS Using our premature pacing algorithm, pentage...
متن کاملA Semi-Automated Algorithm for Segmentation of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone: Application in Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures
Background: Mechanical occlusion of the Left atrial appendage (LAA) using a purpose-built device has emerged as an effective prophylactic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke and a contraindication for anticoagulation. A crucial step in procedural planning is the choice of the device size. This is currently based on the manual analysis of the “Device Landing Zone” fr...
متن کاملCongenital aneurysm of both left ventricle and left atrium
This is a case of both congenital left ventricular (LV) free wall submitral aneurysm and left atrial appendage aneurysm with 6 years of clinical follow-up. Each lesion is a rare entity, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case in medical literature of both lesions occurring in the same patient, raising the likelihood of a common etiology. The workup was initiated in the third tr...
